SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

The ordinary meeting of the North-east Valley School Committee' was held last evening, there being present —Messrs James Hislop (in the chair), D. Borrie, D. Anderson, and C. Allen. The business was of the usual routine, nothing .calling .for special mention being done.' The Gaversham Committee's meeting last evening was attended by all the members, excepting Mr Rutherford. Mr Craig took the chair. The Visiting Committee reported that they found everything quite satisfactory. The annual concert in aid of the prize fund was fixed for Friday, the 4th December. The quarterly returns showed a slight falling off in the attend ance, '6wißguJ» the prevalence of sickness in the district.

The Arthur street' Committee's meeting was attended bV Messrs 'A. . Sligo (in v the chair), Crawford, M'Gregor, Burt, and Captain Orkney. The head master reported the number on the roll to-be 760; largest attendance any half-day, 713 ; strict average attendance for quarter, 668. It was resolved Jftat "an * effort be made to obtain funds for %e improvement'' o'Jt' the school grounds by means pf a copcert or pthenjpise, and the Committee agreed to, co-operate with the head master and teachers for this purpose. Captain Orkney,and Mr M'Gregor were appointed the visiting Committee.
