SYDNEY, September IS,
(R< eeived September 19, li<B7, at 1.15 a.m.)
The following is a list of probable starters for the Metropolitan, to be run on Tuesday : Spade Guinea, Firat Chester, Jewel, Dunlop, Kitawa, Acolyte, Pasha, Crossfire, Frisco, Phaon, Folly, Matador, Dividend, Morok, Cardigan, Felon, Aberdeen, and Upper Cut. Yesterday's meeting was most successful. About 12,000 persons were present, and the weather was splendid. Mr White succeeded in winning three events out of six on the programme. The race for the Derby was good, but was won easily by Abercorn. Enfilade was in too fat condition, and did not move freely. Niagara rau splendidly, and the greatest enthusiasm prevailed whilst the horses were in the straight. The races were generally good. [Special to Press Association.] SYDNEY, Skmwmber 18. There was a large attendance at Tatter sail's last night, and a considerable amount of money was invested both on Spade Guinea and Dunlop. Cardigan has somewhat receded in the betting. Pasha claimed a good deal of attention, and a large commission in his favor was executed at 100 to 3. A demonstration was made against Morok, and, like Cardigan, he has receded in the betting. Spade Guinea, on the strength of being backed by the stable, is most in favor with the public, and, along with Dunlop, holds pride of position in the market; Morok and Cardigan being next in demand. The stable is evincing a disposition to back
Phaon, but there is little money forthcoming. There are also inquiries for Acolyte. The only important wagers booked during the evening were on Dunlop and Spade Guinea, and all the money in the market was taken at 100 to 12, after which they shortened to 6 to 1. Abereorn's victory in the A. J.C. Derby has improved Trident's position in the quotations for the Melbourne Cup. The stable appear very sweet about the chances of Kitawa and Upper Gut. Quotations are :Gto 1 against Spade Guinea and Dunlop ; 7 to 1 Cardigan and Morok ; 10 to 1 Phaon and Acolyte; 12 to 1 Upper Cut and Kitawa ; 100 to G the Jewel; 100 to 5 Crossfire and Frisco ; 100 to 4 (tkn) Pasha ; 100 to 2 (tkn) Dividend. OTAGO HUNT CLUB RACES. The races were brought to a successful conclusion on Saturday. The contests were in most instances of a far more interesting dessription than those of the previous day, and the dividends also ruled higher. Messrs Mason and Roberts passed L 2.385 througn the totalisators, making a total of L 4.260 for the meeting. The following concludes our report: — WELTER HANDICAP, of 10 sovs. One mile. J'r 11.
