CRIMINAL.
At the Auckland session yesterday, the following sentences were passed John Bennett alias Wyatt, for larceny of clothing, six months’ hard labor; William Norman, stealing fifty grape vines, twelve months’ hard labor; Harry Hines, larceny of tobacco, twelve months’ hard labor ; Walter Bowden, a youth of nineteen, for stealing a watch, clothing, etc., eighteen months’ hard labor; Robert Farrclly, a lad, charged with breaking and entering, discharged on probation for two years. The case against Philip Rigby, larceny as a bailee, was dismissed. Quite a number of claims for exemption from jury service were received. Littlejohn, the turncock for tho Borough of Parnell, tried to be excused for fear that a fire should occur in the Borough. Judge Ward refused tke application, remarking that Parnell must take its chance of being burned down if no one else could manage the valves,
