OTAGO v. WELLINGTON.

[Special to the Star.]

WELLINGTON, September 3. The ram has cleared off, and it is a beautiful day for the match between Otago and Wellington. The ground is in splendid order. The local men are decided favorites, 3 to 2 being laid on them. The game does not commence till 3.16 pm. Downes, Hunter, and Simpson stand out of the Ocago team, who play their full strength forward ; Drabble acting as captain. 4,10 pm. In the first spell there was no score. The play was very even, 5.20 p.m. Tho game resulted in a draw. No set re was made by either side.

TOWN V. COUNTRY.

This match, which had been looked forward to with considerable interest, came off on the Carisbrook Ground this afternoon, and attracted a large number of spectators. Tho weather was all that could bo desired, and the ground was in first class condition. The teams were constituted as follows :

Dim-das captained the homo team, and A. Gibson the country. The Town players winning the toss, had the wind in their favor for the first spell. After a few minutes’ play Noel made a dashing tun and got over the line. Douglas took tho kick, which, though a good one, only resulted in a force-down. Shortly afterwards the visitors were again forced, and this getting them on their mettle they made a fine rush, and au incursion into their opponents’ territory was the result. Watson saved his side from what seemed an inevitable try, and, the scene of operations being changed, Hunter was rewarded with a try, which Douglas converted into a neat goal. . Score at the end of the first spell: Town, 4 points ; Country, nil. In the second spell Murdoch got a mark in front of goal, about ter. yards beyond the centre-line, and Lynch, kicking with the wind in bis favor, put the oval over the centre of the bar. This was the only score made in this spell, the game resulting in favor of the Town by 4 poi. ts to 3. The winning side bad all tho best of the latter part of tho game. For the Town Noel and Cook played in fine style, while Hunter and Brodrick lent capital aid. The Country players were alow in following up au advantage, otherwise the result might have been different.
