THE N.Z. RIFLE ASSOCIATION
About sixty Volunteers attended a meeting held at Oamaru last night to discuss the advantages or disadvantages of adopting the Remington-Lee rifle at the New Zealand Rifle Association's meeting to be held at Oamaru early in next year. Captain Creagh, the district representative of the Association Committee, presided. After discussion it was decided by a majority of two—"That seeing the adoption of the Remington-Lee rifle for use at the next meeting of the Association would be very likely to prevent a large number of Volunteers taking part in the forthcoming meeting, this meeting suggests that the arms at present in use be used, and that the Association take immediate steps to obtain a better class of ammunition than was used at the Christohurch meeting of the Association. The following resolution was earned unanimously :-" That this meeting is of opinion that the Remington-Lee nfle should be adopted provided the conditions be modified, and on the Government giving a guarantee that everyone applying would receive the Remington-Lee rifle, irrespective of date of application." Certain alterations were suggested in the programme, and it was proposed that the next meeting of the AssociaUonshould begin m Monday,6th January.
