The Greymouth Education Board have referred back to the local School Committee the question of changes in the teaching staff, with the object of allowing the dismissed teachers to retain their posts till the end of the year. John Morrison was received into the Hospital this afternoon suffering from a fracture of the rib, caused by a fall of earth on tire reclaimed ground. Mr John Sheehan used to say that he “ liked to see a good healthy public opinion, even if it found expression in rotten eggs,”
The annual cost of the New Zealand Civil Service, including school teachers, is L 2,247,284, or L 3 17s lOd per head of the population, while great Britain maintains her Civil Service, and Army and Navy besides, for LI 9s 6d per head.
