FATALITIES.
, On Tuesday last iames ,Speers, aged five and a-half, residing with his parents at Pine 3111, capsized a kettle of boiling water over .himself, and was severely scalded. The boy lingered till Friday, when he died.,, An inquest was, being held at Pine Hill as we went to press.. ■ . > - Two boys were droWned on Sunday at Newton, Auckland, in a Water Jiole, which Was formerly used as a quarry. " The pit had become filled with water through’ the recent rains, and a number of children were playing at the spot, when one, William White, aged nine, fell into the hole, and an elder brotherv Charles, jumped in to rescue him.. In diving the latter struck the rock at the side and was stunned, both lads being drowned, i A dead body was found on Saturday morning iu the water the Auckland railway wharf. The name of the deceased is unknown.
William Lawn, the infant son of Thomas Lawn, was accidentally drowned at Greymouth by falling down a water-closet at the father’s residence. The child was quite dead when recovered.
