CITY POLICE COURT. (Before Messrs N. Wales and T. M. Wilkinson. J P.s) Drunkknnkss —For this offence Patrick M'Cuskcr was fined 10s, with the alternative of forty-eight hours’ imprisonment; Samuel Jihnstnn was conviotid and discharged. Alleged Theft. -- William Farrell w.s charged with stealing 9s (io:n the person of Edward Thomson Mr Solomon appeared for accused, who pleaded not euilty.—Counsel asked that the case be dismissed, as the prosecutor did not appear and the tact was that there was no ground at all for the charge.—After some evidence had been given by the police as to accused having been seen in the prosecutor’s company, the Bench said that the accused would ho discharged. Larcknv.— A liuic Currie was charged with stealing a watch and chain, valued at Ll2, the property e f Gilbert M’Nicholl. Mr Catamore appeared for the accused, who pleaded not guilty.—Sergeant nmJ ;r Bcviu stated that the articles wore stolen in January last, and had not been traced till recently, when the watch was fund to have ceen pawned in Dunedin. The prosecutor was at Invercargill, ami an adjournment for a week was neoe-s iry to enable him to attend. The accused had admitted having pawned the watch —The case was adjourned for a week ; bail was allowed -accused in LlO and two sureties in LlO each
