The Lord Mayor held a grand reception; followed by a ball, at the Guildhall yesterday. A number of Royal personages and Indian princes were present. A grand garden party takes place to-day at Buckingham Palace. The Queen will be present.

The Queen's garden party at Buckingham Palace to-day was of a splendid character; A large number of distinguished gueste were present.

Extreme antagonism has manifested itself of late between King Milan and Qaeefl Natalie, and in consequence the latter la now in the Crimea, and the King absolutely forbids ber to return to Servia.

Sir H. Holland, in answer to a question in the House of Commons, said that the report of the Colonial Conference was undergoing extensive revision, and that the portion of the proceedings relating to the New Hebrides would be suppressed. Mr John Dillon intends bringing an action against the ' Times' for the statements in its articles on " Parnellism v. Crime." He claims LIO.OOO damages. The 'Chronicle' reports that King Milan, of Servia, intends to abdicate. Mr Dawson has given notice in the House of Commons to ask if the Government will, on behalf of the Queen, state what public services have been performed by the gentlemen who are the recipients of Jubilee honors.

Sir C. Mitchell's report on Tongan disorders has been received by the Colonial Office.

A disastrous drought is prevalent in the North of England, and the agricultural industry is sufferine severely. It is reported that Peate, Bates, and Bowley (professionals) will join Mr G. F. Vernon's cricket team for Australia. Attewell will probably go as well. The Australian Agricultural Society have declared a dividend of 475, and the Australian Mortgage Agency an interim dividend of 8 per cent.

LATEST FROM KIMBERLEY. MELBOURNE, June 30. (Received Juno 30, 1687, at 2.15 p.m.)

The latest reports from the Kimherley state that prospects continue good. Twelve reefing claims have been registered. There are 500 men on the field, all of whom are making a livelihood. The field is extending.

The Bill authorising the imposition of increased duties on tobacco passed through the Assembly last night. The session is now rapidly drawing to a close.

AUCKLAND, June 30.

The police went to the store of Ah Chee, a grocer in Wakefield street, last night, and seized twelve cases of Chinese brandy which had been imported. Ah Chee will be charged with selling spirits without a license.

The charge of perjury against Alexander Campbell, arising out of the celebrated Ohinemutu case Mrs Robertson v. trustee! of the estate of the late Mr Robert Graham, heard last year, broke down upon a curious technical point. The indictment stated that the prisoner had been sworn upon the Gospels of God in giving evidence in that case; but it transpired that he had taken the oath upon a Hebrew Bible, being a Jew, and this having been ruled not to be the Gospels, the case broke down, the Crown Prosecutor entering a nolle prosequi. Miss M'Phee, convicted of setting fire to the furniture in her dwelling-house, was sentenced to three years' penal servitude.

WELLINGTON, June 30.

The annual meeting of the Wellington Woollen Company was called for last night, but had to be postponed because fourteen days' clear notice had not been given. The Company's solicitor said neither the day of sending the notice nor that of the meeting could be included in the fourteen days. This was a most important point. Some of the shareholders grumbled at having to come a long distance for nothing, and asked who was to pay the cost they had incurred. The chairman said he would pay it himself. There was no appearance of W. R. Waters at the Bankruptcy Court this morning. After Beveral adjournments be sent a note stating that he had had another fit. Judge Richmond commented severely on the way the Court had been played with, and finally adjourned the hearing till tomorrow to give Waters a last chance. CHRISTCHURCH, Jpnb 30. The criminal calendar includes ten charges of the ordinary character against twelve prisoners.

BALCLUTHA, Joins 29. A large and influential public meeting was held at the Masonic Hall, Kaitangata, on Wednesday evening, to consider the question of the introduction of the Bible into the public schools. The following motion was carried unanimously:—" That the Bible be introduced into the publio schools as part of our educational system." Further action was left to the School Committee, who had called the meeting.
