MUNICIPAL.
Cavkksham.—This Council met last evening, when there were present the Mayor (Mr W. Bragg), Crs Taverner, Nutting, Bridgman, Methven, Marsden, Rutherford, and Baskett. The Finance Committee reported that L 672 la 4d had been lodged in the bank since last meeting, and recommended that LlO2 18s 5d for general accounts and Ll3 16s 6d for water supply be passed for payment.—The Works and Baths Committee recommended that Mr F. Page be granted permission to remove 200 yds or 300 yds of clay from tho Main South road, between Blackwood's and Lookout Point, subject to the supervision of the inspector. They had instructed the inspector to repair the culvert at St. Clair, and to spread a few loads of rotten rock in Victoria street. Adopted. The inspector reported that Sydney street was from 6in to lOin below the water channel. In some parts of the street the metal had completely disappeared, and it would take about 190 yards to properly repair the damage done. Tho cost of such repair would be about L 44. Received. —The secretary of the Gas Department, Dunedin, wrote declining on behalf of the Gas Committee to supply metal for the repair of the Anderson Bay road. The clerk was instructed to again refer the City Council to the correspondent on the subject.— The town clerk of St, Kilda wrote stating
that forty yards of metal was quite insufficient to repair the Bay View road, and asking for a definite reply as to whether the Council would pay half the cost of eighty yards or put forty yards on the road ; if not, the St. Kilda Council would refer the matter to the Resident Magistrate. They were prepared to pay their share of the maintenance of the Forbury road as adjudged by the Resident Magistrate. It was resolved that a reply be sent in answer to the communication stating that the Council would pay half the cost of the forty yards of metal for the Anderson Bay road, the inspector having reported that that quantity wai. quite sufficient in the meantime.—Messrs Haggitt Bros, and Brent wrote asking the Council to take immediate steps to protect the stone sewer at the end of Oargill road by a wall, or authorise the South Dunedin Council to do so at the Caversham Council's expense- If a satisfactory reply was not received on or before the 23rd inst. an application would be made to the Supreme Court for an injunction to restrain the Council from discharging any water into the open ditch to the danger of the South' Dunedin stone sewer. Referred to the Mayor and Cr Rutherford to take a legal opinion on the matter. —The town clerk of South Dunedin wrote forwarding accounts amounting to LBO 12s Bd, for half the cost of works done by that Borough upon boundary roads, and stating that he had received instructions to take proceedings in order to recover the money. Referred to the Mayor and Cr Rutherford. —The tender of Mr Graham at L 7 per annum for the lease of the Borough reserve was accepted.
