RAILWAY HOLIDAY FARES.
TO THE EDITOR. Sis,—The Railway Department advertises cheap fares for the Jubilee holidays to Invercargill, Kingston, Oamaru, Timaru. and Christchurch, at an average rate of 2|d per mile return; or excepting Kingston, at 2d per mile return. But, sir, I want to go to neither of these places, but possibly to Moeraki or Tapanni, and will have to pay 2|d per mile. Why am I to be debarred the same privilege as my neighbor who wishes to go to Christchurch ? If it is the wish of the Depirtment to moke the railways popular, and encourage travelling on holidays, I say let there be a reduction to all stations by charging a uniform rate of 2d per mile, irrespective of distance. It is all very well to moke speocal reductions to special places on occasions of races, shows, etc., but on general holidays I am sure you will agree with me that a uniform reduction to all stations would meet the wishes of the public much more than merely to the few favored stations mentioned; and it is not too late to make the alteration to suit the forthcoming holidays —I am, etc., Fair Play. Dunedin, Jane 11.
