AUCKLAND, June 13. The criminal session was opened to-day/ The calendar is a heavy one, embracing thirty-five cases, and including one of manslaughter, three of rape, and two of arson. WELLINGTON, June 13. The Governor and Mr Ballance leave for the Wanganui Exhibition on Thursday. The Government are stjill negotiating with the insurance companies re the risks on public buildings; answers have only been received from two companies. The premiums asked are, however, considered too high. It is proposed to insure the big wooden building here, for L 50,000. Its original cost was L 90.000. . INVERCARGILL, June 13. J. K. Lea, late, borough clerk of, Winton, was committed for trial on a charge of forgery. . He admitted the offence, and said he was fearfully sorry for it. Bail was applied for, tut on Inspector Buckley stating that other charges were pending involving close on LI,OOO the Magistrate declined to accept bail at the present stage.
