SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

A meeting of the George street School Committee was held last night. There were present Messrs Jago (chair), M. Cohen, Roberts, M'Donald, Simpson, and the Rev. Mr Beckenham. It was reported that the number on the roll was 954, and the average attendance for the month 800. It was resolved that the midwinter holidays should be held in the Jubilee week, the usual time being the week following. Mr A. H. Shelton forwarded his resignation as a member of the Committee, in consequence of his having removed outside of the school district. The Committee accepted the resignation with regret, and postponed until next meeting the filling up of the vacancy. Having consulted the teachers in respect to the proposed woodwork class, the Committee decided to instruct Mr M'Nicoll to intimate to parents of boys in the fourth and fifth standards that a woodwork, class would be established in connection with the school shortly after the midwinter holidays, and to invite applications by those desirous of joining the class. The Kaikorai School Committee met last evening, when there were present Messrs F. Wilkinson (chairman), J. Jackson, R. Turnbull, and Archer (secretary). The headmaster's report (which was a very satisfactory one) was read and received. The midwinter holidays were fixed from the 17th to the 27th inst. A special meeting of Port Chalmers School Committee was held last evening for the appointment of a secretary; present—Messrs Cook (in the chair), Morgan, M'Kay, Law, Murray, and Fee. Six applications were received, and the Committee decided to accept that of Mr G. H. Durham. The report of the Visiting Committee in reference to the school grounds was ordered to st<ind over until the next meeting.
