THE SCHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTIONS.
KENSINGTON SCHOOL. The following were the principal clauses of the report submitted to the meeting of householders on Monday night:— The annual examination of the school by Inspector Goyen took place in July lost. With the exception of the work done by the Second Standard, the school passed a satisfactory examination. The average attendance for March quarter was 861; roll number, 391. At the present time there are some cases of sickness in the district which interfere somewhat with the average attendance. Besides keeping everything in connection with the school in excellent repair, your Committee managed to add 206 square yards of asphalt to that in the girls' yard; the old asphalt, too, was top-dressed, the whole of the work costing LlB 7s 6d. For the purpose of providing pure drinking water for the school children, the Committee, after failing in an endeavor to procure a suitable filter in town, resolved to have a 400-gallon tank ailed with a twoinch block of Oamwu stone, placed vertically in the tank so as to divide it into equal parts, the stone being securely fastened with iron bolts and cement, thus rendering the tank perfectly water-tight. The water is obtained from the main, the supply being regulated by a ball-trap, which allows the water to run freely into one-half of the tank. It then percolates through the stone, and is drawn off cleansed from the other half. Thus far the resale is very satisfactory. Tour Committee would advise their successors to have another tank, for the girls, fitted similarly, and placed inaconvenientposition. Acpresentboysandgirlsdrink from the same tank. The janitor and his wife have been most attentive to the school, outhouses, and grounds, which are In excellent condition. There were fourteen meetings of Committee during the year, attended by members as follows:—Mr Evans 14, Mr Cafhn 12, Mr s>tone 8, Mr Sbackloek 12, Mr NichoUs 14, Mr G. W. U'Een 2, and Mr John U"Eenß. The receipts for the year ended April were Ll2l 4s 9d, and the expenditure Lll2l3sld, leaving a balance in hand of LBllsßd.
