THE OAMARU TRADE.
TO EDITOR. Sir,—l have often thought of writing to you to express the astonishment which I, and no doubt others, feel that the Union Company, in most things so enterprising, should have so long allowed the Beautiful Star to continue in the passenger route from Dunedin to Oamaru, I have several times taken ladies to the Star, and I must say I have always felt ashamed and sorry to leave them in the little hole which forms the ladies’ cabin. The accommodation for men is but little better. Is it not time to put the Star on one side ? I hear she is being refitted. I would like to suggest to the Company that a boat like the Wanaka or Grafton running three times a week, and taking about five hours over the trip, would be sure to gather a lot of passengers; and really I think it is due to the Company, if they undertake to take passengers at all, that they should make better provision for the public, both as to accommodation and apace, than the Star can ever afford.—l am, etc., Voyageur. Dunedin, April 11.
