A NATIVE MURDER.
The body of Kaihai, the Native woman, on a charge of murdering whom To Peihi Nero is under arrest, was exhumed yesterday, and an inquest opened at Otakoho. The medical evidence given as the result of the poet mortem was very conclusive as to the woman having been brutally murdered. The skull was found to be fractured, the breast smashed in, and extensive injury had been done to the abdomen, arms, and legs, and, m fact, all parts of the body were more or less injured, but the neck was not found dislocated, as had been expected, owing to current rumors. After the medical evidence had been given, Inspector Pardy applied for an adjournment till Monday, April 4, There is immense difficulty in getting evidence, the Natives declining to give any assistance, make any statement, or in any way countenance the proceedings, but the police hope before the inquest is renewed to have obtained some information which will enable them to bring the crime home to the perpetrator.
