MUNICIPAL.

South Dunedin.— The ordinary meeting of this Council was held last evening, and attended by the Mayor (Mr Wardrop), Crs Osborne, Henderson, Chetwin, M'lntyre, Fiddes, Cossens, Marlow, and Sullivan.— The secretary South Dunedin Fire Brigade wrote stating that Captain Buman’s resignation had been accepted ; that the new oificcrs were Captain Osborne and Lieutenant Joseph Brady. The Brigade asked that these officers might be appointed fire inspectors.—The Finance Committee recommended payment of the following accounts : —Municipal, L 65 2s 8d ; water supply, LI 3 16s 9d. The Committee recommended that L3OO of the moneys lying to the credit of the current loan account be placed as a fixed deposit for six months. Cr M ‘lntyre suggested that they should spend the loan. The Mayor said if they did there would have to be a special rate. After further discussion the first part of the report relating to the payment of accounts was passed, and the second part was referred back to the Committee for further consideration. —The Mayer’s Committee reported that on account of Mr George failing to. appear at the Committee meeting they wore unable to investigate the charge made by him against the poundkeeper. The Committee having learned that some person or persons unknown broke open the public pound and rescued some horses therefrom, they recommend that the Mayor, upon any future occurrence of a similar nature, should offer a reward to be paid on conviction. The Mayor pointed out that the pound had been broken into on many occasions. Adopted.— The Works Committee reported that they had instructed the town clerk to give the Caveraham Council notice that they would hold them responsible for any damage that might be done to the stone culvert in Cargill road by the How of water from their main drain. They also recommended that tenders be called for the kerbing and finishing of the Anderson Bay road footpath. The report was adopted, with the exception of the clause relating to Anderson Bay road, which was referred back to tire Committee for further consideration. —The Gas Committee reported that the public lamps would be erected in the course of a few days. Adopted.—At a special meeting held last evening it was resolved to strike a municipal rate of Is in the £, and the same water rate as last year.
