PRE-SESSIONAL.

NEW PLYMOUTH. March 22.

Mr 0. Samuel addressed his constituents last night, when the large hall was crowded. He reviewed the work of last session. Referring to political scandals, he said that Mr Steward had innocently placed himself in a false position, but the charges against Sir J. Vogel were proved to be foul slanders on an innocent man. He doubted the sincerity of the Government’s professions respecting retrenchment, but what was wanted to reduce expenditure was more backbone in the members to carry out any proposal made for reduction. Ho intimated that if the electors could not find a more suitable person to bring forward to represent them at the next election, he was willing to stand. A vote of confidence was carried unanimously.
