TO THE EDITOR Sir,—l have searched the late numbers of the •Chemist and Druggist'in vain for tho figure* quoted by " Protectionist," and they are not to be found in that periodical. 'Will "Protection st" give the number and date, to enable mo to test the accuraoy of his statement ? If such figures are really in the ' Chemist and Druggist they are erroneous. The trade returns of Great Britain, as recorded in the ' Statesman s YearRook ' show an excess of imports over exports fveraging horn L80,000,< 00 to L 100.000.000 sterling annually. In 1885-the last year recordtd—the imporfs amounted to L37tf,H.J4,o\l<l, and the exports to L 270.934.935 only, showing a balance of L 103,000,000 in favor of imports. -I am, etc., Vincent Ptkb.
