NORTH DUNEDIN CHURCH.
At a meeting of the North DuneifSli Presbyterian congregation held in tho church yesterday the following resolutions were carried unanimously : That we hereby dcclaro that the memorial received by the Pnsbytery of Duoedin on Tuesday eveningr, tfw 8M» inst.; is a tissue of misstatements [We have monlined the term adopted by the congregation.—Ed. R. I?. M. Su'herltnd or any ether person to introduce anonymous, exploded, and officially-denied slander namely, the gossip regarding the atootf presented by the Ladies' Association to our ptslor, and a slanrter, too, affecting those (ihe ladles) wh", not beta* members of Prosbyiery, bad no oppirtunity of defending themselves Certainly no gentlemen would do such a dastardly thing as Mr Sutherland did, and has often done ; and wo hope that there is only ono Preabytory on earth cipabte of allowing such a gross outrage ou all Chiutian decenoy. We also reseut with indignation tho slanderous allusions m»do by Messrs Downie Stewart and Clement vt hite to the Rev. Mr Gillies, who was absent at 'ho time. They assumed tho v- ry thing we deny; pronounced on a case with which they had nothing to do, and bt which neithor of them is a competent judgo. Wo who have worked with Mr Gillie-', and heard h'n preaching twice or threo times a. week for more than five years, ought to be better Judges as to whether he is a " proper hj inister."
