REGISTRY OFFICES.
TO THE EDITOB. Sir,—l beg to call attention _to the way in which we servants are victimised by some of the proprietors of registry offices. Within a month I have paid 10s to different persons, and neither of them has got me a place yet. Besides this, whenever they have a vacancy they get hold of a lot of applicants for it, charge them 2s 6d each, and send several after the same situation, charging each of them anothef fee from 4s to 5s upwards in addition to the 2s 6d previously charged. Of course only one can have the billet, and the others have to stand out minus their money. In some cases, after paying railway and other expenses, on arrival they find somebody has already been sent after the situation and got it, and then they have to return perhaps penniless. I think in such cases the fees and expenses ought to be repaid to us. I may say in justice that there are one or two offices who make no charge to applicants until they are placed, but some charge 2s 6d per month month after month.—l am, etc., A Sufferer.
