LARGE FIRE AT GISBORNE.

A fire broke .out this morning in the Btables at the rear of the Albion Club Hotel, and spread to the hotel and shops adjoining, as far as Adams's, bookseller. The Loan and Mercantile buildings have just (10 a.m.) caught The buUdings on theopposite side of the street caught, but the fire there was put out. The fire, assisted by the wind, caught the Land Company's brick building, which was burnt down. The Bank of New South Wales was saved by wet blankets. The fire burned itself out at eleven o'clock -—' The total estimated damage is L 30.000. Insurances: Phoenix, L3.O0O; Norwich Union, Ll.400; O O; Equitable, LljlOO; Victoria, L 550 r ; New Zealand, L 10.600; Colonial, L 60 0; Union, L 750 ; North British, L 1.550 j United, L 250. Some of these amounts are reinsured. A private telegram states that the fire broke out in the stables at the rear of the Albion and spread on the one side of Gladstone road as far as the shop of.'Ootid (jeweller), and on the other to the river. The premises destroyed were: Albion stables, Searle (clothier), Armstrong (jeweller), Miller (hairdresser), (jeweller). Hall (saddler), Good (jeweller), Albion ' Club Hotel, Ratcliffe (auctioneer), Poverty Bay Turf Club's offices, the premises jointly occupied by the Union Steam Ship Company and the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency, the premises of the New Zealand Native Land Company, partly occupied as a butchery. -
