DEATH OF MAJOR RICHMOND
NELSON, March 5. The Hon. Major Richmond, C.8., died this morning, in his 86th ■ year, after a lingering illness. He was the oldest member of the Legislative Council; and took a prominent part in the administration of Government in the Cook Strait settlements. After the Wairau massacre he resided in Nelson for over forty years, and was Superintendent prior to the Constitution.
