(Received February 18,1887, at 6.80 a.m.) The Government agent of the labor vessel Helena, which returned to this port from the New Hebrides, reports that the French are about to erect a fort at Port Sandwich, and that an increase in the number of the garrison is intended. CRICKET. SYDNEY, February 19. (Received February 19, 1887. at 12.45 p m.) The final match between Shaw and Lillywhite's team and an eleven of New South Wales was commenced yesterday. The wicket was heavy owing to the recent rain, and play was stopped at intervals by heavy showers. The attendance was small. The New South Wales team went in first, and when stumps were drawn had lost eight wickets for 134 runs. The following were the chief scorers :—M'Donnell, 15; Allen, 41; Jones, 12 ; Turner, 14.
TYPHOID IN MELBOURNE. MELBOURNE, February 19. Up to tho present there have been 519 cases of typhoid fever in Victoria this year, 115 of which have proved fatal.
