♦ CITY POLICE COURT. (Before Messrs J. M. Ritchie and A. Ronnie, J.P.s.) Drunkenness.— John Callaghan was convicted and discharged; Francis Moore was fined 10s, in default forty-eight hours'imprisonment. Annie Hurley was sentenced to a month's imprisonment. Damaging Property. Michael Milcii, charged with breaking; a window of the Queen's Arms Hotel, was fined ss, and ordered to replace tho glass, in default forty-eight hours' imprisonment. Larceny.— William Anderson waß charged with stealing on the 10th October, 1886, a horse collar, of the value of 15s, belonging to Patrick Daly, of the National Hotel, King street. Mr D. M. Stuart appeared for the acoused.—The evidence given for the prosecution was to tho effect that last October the informant missed the horse collar from his stable, and the police had been on the look-out for it since. The defendant was an express-man, and he was found using the collar last He said he had got it from a late employe of Mr S. G. Smith, but this man could not now be found. The informant was positive as to tie 1 identification of the collar, and stated that ho had often seen' the accused in his yard.—The accused deposed that about the 15th of January he borrowed the collar, for a horse having a! sore Bhoulder, from a man named George Mor-, rissey, who was in the employ of *Mr g. G. Smith. He had made inquiries after Morrisaey, and found that he had gone harvesting.—The case was adjourned for three weeks, to give the: accused an opportunity of finding Morrissey. Bail was allowed in his own recognisance for L 5 and two sureties of L 5 each.
