DEATH FROM MISADVENTURE.

AtAmberley, on Tuesday, William Barr met his death by taking poison through a mistake. He had obtained lodgings, for a night or two, at the residence of George Sheldon, in the towns'rip. On Tuesday night, at a quarter to ten, after the family had retired, Barr, who had been accommodated with a bed in the kitchen, was heard to be moving about, and at last called out that he was poisoned. Sheldon took no notice of this, as Barr was a peculiar character, and had 'been drinking lately." A few minutes later, Barr was heard to fall on the floor. Sheldon then came out, and observed a strong smell of carbolic acid, and that a bottle, containing some, ivhich was usually kept in the cupboard, was then on the table. The bottle was labelled "brandy," and the contents had quite the appearance of dark brandy." Dr Morris was called in, and the stomach-pump used, and every means were tried t;o save the man, but unavailingly. He died in about one hour after taking the poison. Deceased had been farming in the locality for some years, but latterly he had taken to drink and wasted his substance. He has a brother, who lives at Cabbage Tree Flat. Shortly before his death, Barr had telegraphed for a passage to be reserved for him in the" Onyx, to proceed to the Kimberley goldfields.— JLyttelton Times.'
