SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

The George street School Committee met last knight. Present—Messrs Jago in the chair),' Simpson, Macdonald, J. Roberts, and Rev. J. Beckenham. The Rev. Dr Macgregor's circular re syllabus was received, and it was decided that before a reply was forwarded the head-master should be conferred with. Jt was reported that the average number on the roll for the-quarter was 904, and the-'average attendance 771. The sum of L 5 was voted towards the improvement of the addition to the playground. The monthly meeting of the Union street Committee, held last evening, was attended by Messrs J. L. Gillies (chairman), M'Laren, Morrison, Swan, and Wright.—The headmaster reported that the number on the roll at the end of the month was: boys, 387 ; girls, 352; total, 739. The average attendance for the month had been: boys, 322; girls, 290 ; total, 612.—The Chairman reported that he had received a circular from Dr Macgregor relative to the educational syllabus, and that he had replied to the same. After some discussion it was resolved that Messrs Swan and M'Laren be appointed a sub-committee to draw up a reply to the circular on behalf of the Committee. —Other routine business was transacted.
