THE HARBOR BRIDGE

TO THE EDITOR. y IB) _I trust you will allow men, few words'in reply to Mr J. White's answer to me in yesterday's issue. Mr White says I am wrong in several particulars, but he fails to show it; and it seems to me that his own letter is ft confirmation of my statements. Mr White has been charged with disingcnousncss in stating that the resolution as to the bridge was passed by the Board without

I dissent, and his own letter furnishes the proof; for it is evident that Mr White wished to convey the impression that the Board were unanimous, and now he admits that only three members votod. But, says Mr White, two of the members tacitly assented because they did not voto. On the oontrary, tho inference I draw from tholr not voting ii that thoy knew their duty too well to meddle with a matter that did not oonoorn tho Board. Mr White also shows considerable Ingenuity in evading the real point in that part of his letter in which he offers to call a meeting of the ratepayers, for 1 am not aware that I asked him to call a meeting. What I did was to challenge him to call such a meeting to put to the test whether he represents the ratepayers or not. If Mr White does not know the difference between a request and a challenge I cannot help it. Mr White will find that the ratepayers can have a meeting for the protection of their own interests, when the proper time comes, without requisitioning him. If, however, Mr White should think proper, for his own satisfaction, to call a meeting I would suggest that he should appoint some more central place for the meeting than the Anderson Bay Hall, in order that all the members of the Board may. attend, and the ratepayers in the other subdivisions, who are not so much interested in the bridge as the Anderson Bay people, but are equally interested in the rating proposals.—l am, etc., A-vothek Ratepayer. , Peninsula, May 11. |
