"PAK-A-PEU " ATLAWRENCE
The Chinese mustered in great fores at the Lawrence Police Court on Monday, when a resilient of the Chinese Camp named Ah Gun was charged on the information of Constable Bowman with keeping a gamblinghouse in which the unlawful game of pak-a-peu was played. Four other Chinamen were charged with baivitj on the premises. From the evidence given Inspector Moore, Constable? Bowman and Daiibeny proceeded to the Chinese Camp on Sunday evening with a search warrant and demanded admittance from the accused. This, after a little delay, was granted, when they found the fivo Chinamen there, and succeeded in securing a lot of materials used in the game before mentioned. After the case had been gone thoroughly into, Mr Revell, R.M., inflicted a fine of L3O and costs on Ah Gun, and with the others he dealt somewhat milder, two of them having to pay 40d and two of them 20s.
