THE ANGLICAN CHURCH.

TO THS KDXTOH. Sir,—Tho Bishop’s proposal for a cathodral having been unsuccessful with the General Synod, a temporary arrangement inicdit be come to until times aro improved. In four or five years a site might he secured on the reclaimed ground near the railway station, which would be far more central than All Saints’. A cathedral ought to he placed like St. Paul’s, London, where short services for business men could be held at mid-day, and about nine in the morning the door ought to ho always open, that any person wishing to say his private devotions could do so, which is the custom in many English churches. St. Matthew’s would ho the best site for the purpose. It would he only a graceful net on the part of the congregation to make the offer to the Bishop. Why should All Sainti’ have all the good things, while we at the south end arc in a state of spiritual starvation? At South Dunedin and the neighborhood towards Anderson Bay we have no church privileges—a sort of dog-in-the-manger selfish state of affairs prevails. The Caveraham people ekvim to have control of the district, and wHI do nothing themselves nor allow any other person to conduct services. The strange part of it is that the incumbent was sent out by the Church Missionary Society. Now he has not a spark of missionary spirit left. A cathedral would stir up spiritual life, which is sadly needed. We find now children vmbaptised, young people going wrong, general indifference among English Churohpeople. She is losing her members by hundreds mid thousands. — I am, etc., Anglican. Dunedin, March 4.
