RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

A. AV. Cottrell v. F. Curtis. —Claim, L 3 13s, on a judgment summons.—Order refused.

A. Kincaid v. 15. C. Calverley.—Claim, L 9 ss, on a judgment summons. Mr Dick appeared for plaintiff.—Defendant, in the course of his examination, said that he owned live houses, but only one of them was occupied. He had some other property, but it was mortgaged, and lie received no income from it.—Defendant was ordered to pay the amount by the Ist prox., in default fourteen days’ imprisonment. 11. Wilson v. J. Crow.—Claim, L3O 15s 7d, on a promissory note.—After plaintiff had given some evidence, the case was adjourned for the production of further evidence.

G. Sheriff v. J. Macdonald.—Claim, Ll7, for damage alleged to have been done to buildings and fences on property leased by plaintilf to defendant. —Mr Kettle appeared for plaintilf; Mr Dcnniston for defendant.— This partly-heard case was resumed, and was not concluded when wo went to press.

Drunkenness. — Jamru Poland, for this offence, was fined ss, in default twenty-four hours’ imprisonment. Vaokancv —For being a common vagrant, Elizabeth Hatley was sent to gaol for a month.

Ini.i'.r.ALLY Pawning.— Alfred Horhy was charged with having on the 11th January, 18S0, unlawfully and knowingly pawned with one Samuel Goldstein one gold watch, valued 1.8, the property of David Dawson.— Mr Catomorc appeared on behalf of the prosecutor, andapplied for a remand till Monday. Accused had been employed by Mr Dawson to sell jewellery, and he had disposed of a large quantity of the goods by pawning them.---There was a second charge against accused of pawning, on the 20th January, a gold brooch and earrings, valued L 5, the property of same prosecutor.—A remand till Monday was applied for also in this case. —The applications wore granted, A by-law case was dealt with.
