CONGREGATIONAL UNION.

At the last day's sitting at Timaru of the Congregational Union, Christchurch was selected as the place for the next meeting. The finance report showed a balance from last year of LSI. Receipts from all sources amounted to L 57 9s lOd from the Donedin district, L 37 10s 6d from the Christchurch district, L 26 15s from the Wellington district, and LlO7 19s lOd from the Auckland district; which, with LIOO from the Colonial Missionary Society and interest, brought the full amount up to L 420 Is lOd. The expenditure amounted to L 365 2s3d, leaving a balance of E54 19s 7d« It was resolted that the pastors of all churches associated up to the rising of the Council should have thoir expenses paid. A report was received from ths Executive Committee regarding the disbursement of funds for sites and church grants to the extent of L 445 for sites at Invercargill, St. Clair, Akaroa, and Petone. Grants were given to the following districts, viz.:—Dunedin, Auckland, and Wellington. Mr Jago considered it was desirable to increase the funds of the Union by increasing the number .of individual subscribers, and moved that each District Committee take steps to bring the claims of the Union before the individual churches, ancl to increase the number of individual subscribers to the funds of the Union.—This was carried. The Reference Committee recommended that power be granted to the Dunedin District Committee and trustees to take steps to place the building and property at South Dunedin in such a position as best to carry on the work there, which was done in accordance with the recommendation.

It was unanimously resolved—" That this Council record their disapproval of any attempt to alter the present educational system of this Colony in the direction of a return to denominationalism, and pledge themselves to use all legitimate means to give effect to their views on this question, and that the Executive take such action as they think necessary for the carrying out of this resolution."
