As they wont round the last stretch Borderman wont up and passing Trapper, Rocket, and Marquis, in quick succession, turned into the straight with a clear lead. Vanity Fair, wide on the outside, got a good deal the best of the start, The Baker and Matanaka coming on next; but at the stand the last-named was at; Vanity Fair’s girths, with The Baker and Quibble third and fourth respectively, Tasmania fifth. Going round to the right the favorite improved her position, and at three-quarters of a mile had gained front place, slightly in advance of Vanity J?air, but as their heads turned towards home the whole lot closed up with the exception of Matanaka and The Baker, and the finish was a rattling one. Titbit, however, gradually drew to the front and won cleverly by a length fiom Vanity Fair, with Tasmania eased up third. Time, 2min 18|sec. Dividend—lnside, L 6 4s 6d ; outside, L 5 7s 6d.

St. Andrew’s Handicap, of 300 sovs, with a sweepstakes of & sovs each added ; second horse 60 sovs, third horse 30 sova from the stakes. One mile and a-balf. Ur D. (Buddicombe) 0 Betting: Even on Fusillade, 2 to 1 against Hermitage and Rubezahl, 5 to I Talebearer.

With very little trouble the lot were sent on their journey, Rubezahl prominent in the van, just clear of Don Jos6 and Fusillade, Hermitage lying fourth. Thesepoaitions were not maintained long, for, sweping past the stand, half a-mile from the start, the Martyr filly had taken charge of affairs, with Don JoSd second. A quarter of a mile further on the six were running in three pairs—Don Jos4 and the Martyr filly in front, a clear length separating them from Rubezahl and Herfaiitage, and another clean length dividing these from Fusillade and Talebearer. In this order they raced along the far side of the course, and not until the home turn was reached were the two outsiders displaced from the lead. There, however, Don Jos6 dropped back beaten, and a little further on the Martyr filly also compounded, and their places were taken by Hermitage and Talebearer. A rare set-to between this pair ensued, the black horse having apparently a little the best of it, but Hermitage just lasted long enough to make a dead heat of it on the post. Fusillade, who came at the right end, but could not quite get up, was a good third. Time, 2min 45Asec. The stakes were divided, and the investments on Hermitage and Talebearer in the tbtalisator wore also, put together and divided equally between their respective backers.
