MUNICIPAL.

Caversham. — The meeting of the Caversham Council last evening was attended by the Mayor (Mr E. Wilson) and Crs Jones, Taverner, E. W, U’Ren, J. U’Ren, Morrison, Bridgman, Broadfoot, Cole, M‘Laren, W. Wilson, and Allen.—The Finance Committee, in their report, recommended that the Mayor andCrßragg should be authorised to sign cheques for the Council, and _ that the clerk be instructed to procure copies of those Acts relating to local bodies passed during last session.—The Works Committee reported that they had met a deputation from the Works Committee of South Dunedin Council in reference to repairing boundary roads, and they had agreed to each spend L 25, half the sum required to repair Macandrew road, and to pay half the cost of repairing Cargill road with metal. The Committee recommended that seven chains of Lindsay road should be formed, kerbed, and channelled.—-In reference to the drainage of Cargill road, the Drainage and Water Committee reported that they had instructed the clerk to request Mr Barr to draw up specifications for a drain in wood, in concrete, and in brick.—The Mayor said that the Committee had waited on Mr Barr in reference to several matters in connection with this drain, and they had brought before him the suggestions made by Cr U’Ren, which Mr Barr promised should have, his consideration. He also promised to draw up the specifications required. These reports were adopted.— The Recreation and Reserves Committee reported that they had interviewed Mr J. Fulton, M.H.R., in reference to obtaining access to his property through the recreation reserve, and that gentleman had agreed to give the Council the land on certain conditions which would be found in his letter of the Ist iust. The Committee, seeing that there would be some delay before the Council could carry out the conditions, requested the member for the district to confer with Mr Fulton respecting the required outlet into the main road through the barracks ground, and the result of that conference caused the Committee to address Mr Fulton by letter, to which he had replied. The Committee, therefore, recommended that the necessary steps be taken for placing the reserve in a serviceable condition. The Council resolved to consider the matter in Committee. —The town clerk of South Dunedin wrote asking if the Council were willing to pay the cost of the supply and delivery of 300 yards of rotten rock for Cargill road. Tho Council resolved that it would be useless to go to t"is expense in the meantime, as tenders were about to he called for the construction of the box-drain.—Mr E. Walker wrote regarding the drainage of his section at St. Clair, and his letter was referred to the members for South Ward.—Cr Jones forwarded his resignation as a member of the Finance Committee. To stand over till next meeting.—Communications were received from the Premier’s office, and from the Colonial Undcr-Secretary, in reference to the Hospitals and Charitable Institutions Act, and they were both referred to a Committee of the whole Council. —The City Council wrote agreeing with the under which the Cavcrshani Council would allow Anderson Bay road to he opened up. Received.—The plans and specifications of the Cargill road drain, laid on the table, were referred to the Drainage Committee.— Mr Hobbs’s tender for the supply of 300 yards of rotten rock for Calderville was accepted.—Ur Allen moved the following : “ That the Council instruct the Works Committee to prepare a statement, a copy of which, upon completion, to be immediately supplied to each councillor, particularising all known and probable works, including road and street formation, and maintenance (not provided for by loan) in each ward during the present financial year, their probable cost, and report to Council; that the Drainage Committee be instructed to prepare a statement, a copy of which, upon completion, to be sent at once to each councillor, showing all known and probable works (not provided for by loan) that may be necessary to be done in each ward during the present financial year, the probable cost, and report to Council; .that the Finance Committee be instructed to prepare a statement of general revenue, showing the amount available for carrying out the works of the Borough (other than those provided for by loan), and that a copy, accompanying the statements prepared by the Works and Drainage Committees, be supplied to, each councillor,” An amendment, by Cr Broadfoot— “ That the resolutions be considered twelve months hence,” was carried by 7to 2.—Cr Bridgman moved, and it was resolved—“ That the Finance Committee be instructed to prepare a statement of the loan account showing the amount available for carrying out the works of the Borough.”
