The Invercargill Wanderers met a scratch team of the Phoenix Club on the Caledonian Ground yesterday and gave them a thorough drubbing. The bowling of Thompson and Dalrymple in the first innings was too much for the local men, who were disposed of for the small score of Co —Haskell, M'Lean, and Knox being the only ones who got into double figures. Thompson took seven wickets for 27 and Dalrymple three for 37. Invercargill replied with 131, Thompson contributing 5C and Robertson (not out) 16. Cooke took four wickets for 42 and West three for 37. Phoenix did a little better in their second venture, making 39, the innings closing just as time was called. Cooke played a free innings of 55. R. C. Niven, an old Cariabrook player, kept wickets well, and it should be mentioned that West, who acted in a similar capacity for Phomix, brilliantly effected the dismissal of Tapper, the Invercargill captain.
