OTAGO AGRICULTURAL SHOW.

In concluding our notice of ftb»Witfw» feel sure v -that all who visited will agree that it was by far the best ever held here, and it is patent that, with the splendid ground the Association.pow possess and the accommodation afforded' exhibitors, the annual gathering will improve rapidly year by year until it will not be surpassed by any in-the Colony. Notwithstanding the bit* terly oold and squally weather : Ijhj* Pj" vailed yesterday upwards of 6,000 penjoli visited the show, a number which we. wj expect to see doubled next year if the iwaatiw prove more favorable. 11 ""!^, In the class for thoroughbred horses.'Mr Taggart's stallion La Loup, who was looking in tine condition, had no difficulty fejffffßHF first prize, his only opponent being Ml}J. Reid's Tasmanian-bred Hotspur, - who. ■»«•» we believe, a «on of Horatio.' }**">&& . year-olds, a young King Plulipvg^wd^n*

award over exhibits by Cadogan, Hornby, .and Spot; but it is only fair to state that Mr Taggart's colt Riccarton, a son of the two old racers Hornby and Maritana, would have taken first prize but for his being lame. In yearling colts, Mr Crowhurst's Spot, by Spot—Lady Richmond, beat Mr J. Brown's Le Loup youngster. In brood mareo Mr Taggarfc took two piizes without opposition, but there was good competition in the class for two-year-old fillies, in which Mr T. Surman, of luveroargill, took first and second prizes with fillies by Rapid Bay and Defamer. Mr J. Stephenson was unopposed in yearling fillies, and was awarded first prize for a filly stated in the catalogue to be by Epigram—Blaok Rose. The book was, however, full of errors, and we believe this filly to be a daughter of the Middle fark stallion Apremont and Red Rose. Some excellent carriage and buggy horses were shown, and among the leading prize-takers were two or three members of the medical profession. Mr Taggart deservedly took several awards in these classes, while in hackney entries he was an easy first with his American trotting aire Pinole Patchen, who attracted much attention. The jumping competition watt looked forward to with interest, and though the weather at the time it took place was worse than at any other period of the day a large number of spectators gathered on the terrace to witness the trials. Some of our best cross-country riders bad mounts in this competition, and took their horses over the fences in fine style. In the class for huntern (4ft jump) Mr J. F. Beid's Maori, riddon by Bill M'Kay, took first prize after keen competition among a dozen competitors, of whom Mr Taggart's Robin Hood (Taggart, jun.) and the same owner's veteran Lottery (Alex. M'Kay) were next beßt. In the leaping matches (3ft 6in jump) Mr Taggart's Archer and Lottery took the leading prizes, while Robin Hood took that for the highest jumper.
