The House will also be asked to oonsider the advisability, before expending additional thousands of pounds upon it, of inviting scientific men from the neighboring colonies to devise a soheme for its Improvement, the chairman of which committee to be Sir William Jervois" It may be interesting for the public to know that this Parliament was elected, conshting of 18 members of the Upper House and 159 members of the Lower House, and the number of votes ■" Registered " in their favor was 8,200. The salaries of those upon the Government Benches are larger than those of the Lower House, the reason of which is, their duties being more "arduous." However, to please all concerned, their remuneration has beenoarefnlly considered, the amounts payable to eaoh being specially mentioned below, and will be made payable to the number of " writ" certified to by returning offioers.
