The engine of the goods train which left Dunedin at 10.15 this morning was thrown off the line at Kensington through'a stopblock being in its wrong position. Nothing serious occurred, and the train was only delayed about twenty-five minutes. ; Another young native-born colonist has paade bis mark at Home. Dr. Albert Martin, a ion of the Hon. John Martin, lately passed the medical examination with the highest honors, and obtained the gold medal and an appointment as a resident physician at Guy’s Hospital, London, at a salary of L6OO to start with,. Dr Martin is now bn a visit to the Colony, and will shortly return to England to fill his appointment. Charles Mathers was arrested Jin , Cork while taking passage to America on a charge of embezzlement, and was lodged in the local bridewell. His gaoler, having business in the cell, went into the apartment, and Mathers walked out and turned the key. He proceeded to the bridewell-keeper’s wife, and telling her that her husband had a fit, he managed to get her into the cell also, and then decamped.
