THE LAND BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the Land Board was held to-day, and was attended by Messrs Maitland (Chief Commissioner), Clark, Green, and Duncan. Mr Connell presented a petition from several miners at Fulhrton objecting to the renewal of D. Connelly's license. The District Land ' Officer recommended the renewal, which was granted. Mr Connell, for D, Ballentyne, notified the abandonment of section 3, block 7, Wendon.

Messrs Arbuckle and Go., for J. M. Stewart, asked that the upset prices oi sections 163 and 164, block 1, Waitabuna, should be reduced from L 5 to L2 per acre,— Referred to Ranger Hughan. Mr Connell, for D. M'Lean, applied for a license to mine for coal over seven acres of section 17, block 6, Chatton, at LI per aeft. —Ranger Hughan recommended that the application should be granted, as the demand for coal in the district was increasing, and the settlers were anxious for another pit to be opened,—Mr Monat, for T. Grover, objected.—License granted for seven years, at LI-per acre per annum. The following tenders for [suburban deferred-payment land were accepted:— Section 27, block 1, Wyndham (5 acres), Herbert Barfield, LlO 10s (five applicants) 5 section 77, James Butncs,; Ll4 10s 61 (three); section 78, John Burns, Ll6 10a (four); section 79, John Wyatt, Lll 5s (five). D. Haugh being the highest tenderer for the perpetual lease of section 15, block 17, Grookston (109 acres), at Is 6d per acre, ho was declared the licensee.—lt was resolved to allow A. S. Orbell to take up sections 2 and 3, block 1, Hummookside (312 acres), at Is and Is Id respectively, he being the second highest tenderer, and the highest having neglected the fulfilment of conditions. .

W. W. Francis applied to absent himself for three months from deferred-payment sections 3 and 2, blocks 2 and 5, Silver Peak.—lt was resolved “That the license having been cancelled by the Board there is no necessity for applying for leave of absence.” Banger Hughan, repcrting on A, D. Benfell’s application to cultivate sections 24 and 32, block 2, Kelso, suggested that it be declined, and the land opened on deferred payment.—lt was resolved to classify the sections as suburban land with the Government’s approval, and that the Government b« recommended to set aside the same for safe on deferred payments. , Banger Hughan, reporting upon deferred*
