The amoont of revenue collected at the Customhonse on (roods cleared to-day for consumption was L 1.005 IDs lid. Several cablegrams have been received from London advising an improvement in the tone of the metal markets, and specially that an advance in the price of galvanised iron has been established. The revenue collected at the Custom House, Dunedin, during the month etided this day, amounted to L 31.144 6b. The gold duty totted up L 922 0s 6d, and the beer duty Ll.lll 17s 3d. [Br Telegraph. I Melbourne, October 30.— The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company held their usual weekly wool auction to-day. There was a large attendance of buyers. The catalogue submitted was of a fairly representative character, and comprised 2,700 b jes, of which 2,200 were sold. The competition for all lots was keen, fine cross-breds and scoured wools being especially in active demand, buyers operating freely Greasy wools sold up to Hid per lb, and greasy cross-breds to lid; scoured wools brought to 20id. The market may now be regarded as fairly tested, with the following results compared with last year Good merinoes, Mto id lower; fine cross-breds, id to Id higher; farmers’ lots, Id lower ; scoured wools, about equal to last season’s prices.
