THE STANMORE SEAT.
In reference to the rumors as to the impending resignation of the Stanmore seat by Mr W. H. Pilliet, we find that the following requisition is being circulated for signature ; Mr W. 11. Pilliet having intimated his willingness to resign his seat for the Stanmore district to afford the constituency an opportunity to Sir Julius Vogel to vo-entor parliamentary life in New Zealand, we, the undersigned electors, hereby pledge ourselves to use our best efforts to ensure his return if he consents to allow himself to he nominated. A, G. Howland, and others. The following letter was forwarded to Mi’ Howland on the 24th inst.: — In reference to our conversation yesterday, when I suggested to you that, under the present mixed state of aff airs political, and in view of the unfortunate outlook in the Colony, it would lie highly desirable to have Sir Julius once more in Parliament, I may state that, should I he assured that Sir Julias could represent Stanmore during this coming session, I would heartily resign my seat so as to give him the needed oppovtunitv.—Yours, etc., ‘ ’ WAfi t; a 11. Pilmkt. It is understood that Sir Julius Vogel has telegraphed consenting to stand for Stanmore should Mr Pilliet resign.— ‘ Press.’
