Hauroto, s.s., 1,128 tens, Kennedy, for Sydney via Lyttelton and Wellington. The hulk Esk was floated out of the graving dock this forenoon, and her place taken by the C.Q. steamer Stella. The steamer Hauroto sailed this afternoon for Sydney via Lyttelton and Wellington. The Hawea, from the North, arrived at seven this morning. She left Nelson at 4.6 p.m. on the 4th Inst.; Picton at 2.15 a.m. on tho sth; and Wellington at 10.6 p.m. on the 6th. An unsuccessful attempt was mode at high tide this afternoon to launch the new steamer Port Jackson, built by Messrs R, S. Sparrow and Co. for the Port Jackson Shipping Company. At tho word to “let go,” the stern lines were cut away before those forward, and the vessel slewing round carried tho cradle off the slide. Another attempt will probably be made on Tuesday. ACCIDENT TO THE JOHANN ADOLPH. Napier, April 7.—As the three-masted schooner Johann Adolph, which completed taking in a cargo of wool, tallow, and preserved meats yesterday on behalf of the New Zealand Shipping Company, was being taken out into the roadstead, preparatory to sailing for London, she took ground on the boulder bank inside the eastern pier-head, and stranded. She started out on the last of the flood tide in tow of the 8.8. Sir Donald, but before she could be headed out into the tideway she bilged slightly on the bank just outside the cattle wharf. Tins, however, only necessitated a slight delay, during which time the tide had commenced to ebb, and earned the Sir Donald out ahead of her, so that when dear of the bank she was unable to get her enough out into the stream, and the schooner was kept in the shallow water alongside the pier, eventually taking the ground inside the tail-end of the boulder bank on the lee side of the eastern pier. Her head lay almost opposite the lighthouse, where the ebb-tide making held her fast. As there was a considerable sea on the bar this morning this caused the schooner to surge about a good deal, and'lines were run out to the breastwork to steady her as much as possible. The s.s. Sir Donald went to her assistance again at about noon, when the tide commenced to make, and at 12.45 the tug got her dear and towed her into the roadstead. The extent of her damage has not been ascertained, but, although she was making little or no water, it is feared that her copper and planking would be considerably injured, as the bank on which she struck is composed of large boulders and shingle, some of the former being very ragged and sharp. It Is thought probable that she will have to go to either Wellington or Lyttelton for an overhaul.
