MUNICIPAL.

St. Kilda.—At the ordinary meeting of thin Counoil last night, a letter was received from Mr J. D. Hutton drawing attention to the removal of eand from the hills aeav the Grand Pacific Hotel. One party had been taking sand from both sides of the hills, and the inspector. who *rifed id st3p him, got nothing but abuse for his trouble. On Saturday the writer saw two of Mi Kltohing's carta taking the sand from the beach road; and yesterday morning he (the writer) wont out to take hlauihial walk along the beach.,but had to return on proceeding a short distance, for the tide was right up io the fence, there haying been a heavy sea running during the previous night. It was decided to refer the matter to the Commissioner of Crown Lands.—The Matob stated that Messrs Sievwright and Stout had withdra #'n the summons for money due for legal services.—The Finance Committee recommended that one officer should be appointed to undertake the work of all the offiocs in connection with the Borough. The Matob explained that Mr lies, the Borough collector, had sent in his resignation, as he found that he coald baiely make a living at collecting. Mr Clarke stated that the matter had been fully discussed in committee, and the recommendation was made because the Borough officers had .b«en continuallt resigning their positions. It had been decided that the applicants for this position should be men who were in a position U devote their whole time to the business la connection with the Borough, or, at all events, men who were not engaged in any other occupation or office work that would be detrimental to the interests of the Borough of St. Kilda. The Counoil had all along been very well satisfied with the present clerk, and they would like very much if that gentleman could see his, way to remain in the sorvicc of the Council. Mr Clarke then referred to a paragraph which had appeared in one of the morning papers about the Council** intention to dispense with their clerk. The statements contained in that paragraph were senseless and untruthful. After further discussion, it was resolved to give Mr Kankin a week to think over the Council's offer.—The Council disapproved of the Forbury Park Company's application to ebtain a grant for a closed road-line on their property.
