UNIVERSITY COUNCIL.

Tho regular two-monthly meeting of the University Council fell to be held yesterday, but there waa no quorum preaent, only Dr Stuart (tho Chancellor), Dr Macdonald, Dr Burns, and Mr E. B. Cargill being in attendance. Some necessary business waa directed to be gone on with, the instructions of the councillors preaent to be ratified at the next regular meeting. The Colonial Secretory wrote that "His Excellency the Administrator of the Government will be advised to consent to tho sale of the Forest Hill Reserve on condition that the consent be expressed by deed binding the University Council to invest the proceeds in freehold land or other security approved by the Governor, and no* to vary the mode of investment without the Governor'a approval, and on further condition that the sale he by public auction, at which an upset price approved by tho Governor shall be fixed."The Chancellor waa requested to write expressing tho Council's thankful acceptance of the offer. Tho Museum Committee recommended that the janitor's salary be raised to L 95 per annum. A proposal was made that part of the salary of the professor of biology and curator of the Museum be paid out of the revenue of tho Museum, and the Committee advised the Council to debit the Museum funds with LIOO per annum of the professor's salary. The curator reported that he would shortly require moro space for exhibits, and tho registrar waa directed to write to Mr David Roas, architect, to ask him to inspect the building and report as to cost of necessary alterations. A letter was received from Mr W. J. M. Larnaeh asking tho Council to give effect to tho resolution of the Committee of the Chamber of Commerce re an Agricultural College for Otogo.—Consideration wa* necessarily deferred.

The secretary of the Education Department wrote that the sum of LSOO would be placed ou the estimates to provide for the School of Mines for another year.
