POLITICAL GOSSIP.

[Br Our Special Repobtbh.] WELLINGTON, July 8. The members of the House in whose constituencies are the several suburban boroughs surrounding Dunedin, fearing that the Bill introduced by Mr Fish (having for it 3 object the conferring on the Corporation of Dunedin the right to impound the water of the Taieri Biver and its tributaries) will increase tbe monopoly already so injurious to the large population they reprosent, are endeavoring to get those concerned to form a water board to acquire the privileges for Dunedin and suburbs together. The Premier informs me that the Government will select, either at the end of next week or the beginning of the following week, what business they propose to go on with, and what they propose to abandon during the present session, which is expected to terminate at the end of August. Surprise is expressed that the much-talked-of no-confidence motion seems no nearer at hand than ever, though it is still whispered that the motion will be brought forward on Tuosday, immediately after the Public Works Statement, will be'moved by Mr Montgomery, and seconded by Mr Dargaville, who aspires to the position of Colonial Treasurer. Nothing, however, is yet decided upon, and some say that the motion will not bo brought forward this season. It Is reported that the Government have engaged a residence in Nelson for Te Whiti and Tohu, who are shortly expected from the South, and that the Maori detinues will be kept there for a period of six months, withthe privilege of having their wives sent for, if desired, after which they will be allowed to return to Paribaka. | The House sits on Monday evening next, I when the Colonial Treasurer's National Insurance scheme will be unfolded at great length. i The discussion on the Land Bill will also be resumed should time permit.
