FRAUDULENT CHAMPAGNE LABELS.
♦ Joseph Collins, a commission agent at Adelaide, has been committed for trial on the charge of falsely pretending to Mr Thomas Born that five cases containing wine, and labelled "Champagne Private Cuvee, Krug and Co., Rheims, "were five cases of genuine Champagne Private Cuvee, Krug and Co., Rheims, whereas it was not manufactured by Krug and Co., but wine with imitation " Krug and Co.'s Rheims Champagne" label on the bottle, by means of which false pretences the said Collins obtained LlB 15s from Thomas Bom, with intent to defraud. Collins was further charged that he did, with intent to defraud, cause to be applied a certain counterfeit trade mark to certain bottles of champagne, which were sold by him to Thomas Born on February 23. In this case the evidence taken was very similar to that on which the defendant had been committed far trial. Sears, a printer, deposed to Collins ordering from the firm of Henn and Sears 4,000 labels similar to those of Krug and Co.'s champagne labels, which lie said were to replace some old Krug labels, but that only 400 were executed. Several wellknown publicans were called, who gave evidence that the wine sold to Born was not Krug's champagne, as stated by Collins, and that the labels were not Krug's, but very good imitations.
