POLITICAL GOSSIP.
[By Our Special Reporter.] WELLINGTON, May 27. Sir George Grey's speech last night, applauding Mr Bryce's Native policy, is the talk of everybody to-day. He surprised his own paity (if such it can be called) not a little by his remarks. People now want to know what hj« meant by it. A rumor is going the rounds that opposition will probably be made to the Native Policy Bills, with a view to enable Te Whiti and Tohu to plead their own cause at the bar of the House. I cannot, however, vouch for the accuracy of the statement. It is understood that Mr Hurst will withdraw from the candidature for the Chairmanship of Committees in favor of Mr Hamlin,
