This was a mere exercise canter for Vanfuard, who won hands down. Whitlo was a ad third. Time, lmin 19sec. Consolation Handicap, of 30 sovs. One mile. Mr P. Butler's ch m Luna, by Traducer—Flying Fish, aged, Bst lib (Butler) l Mr G. Bate's ch g The Poet, 4 yrs, 6st 101b (carried 6at 121b) (Blanche) 2 Mr H. Goodman's br hj Chancellor, aged, Bst 41b (Hoskings) 8 Mr Sherwin's ch g Coldstream, 5 yrs, 6st 71b (Chapham) 0 Betting : Even on Luna. The favorite was quickest away, but was steadied and the lead allowed to be taken by Coldstream and The Poet till a quarter of a mile from home, when Luna came up again, and settling Coldstream and The Poet in the run home she won easily by three lengths. The Poet was second, Chancellor (who could not get up) a good third. Time, lmin 47sec. This concluded a most successful and pleasant meeting—the best that has ever been held at Timaru.
