PORT CHALMERS QUARRY.

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir, —There seems something very strange in the doingß of the Port Chalmers Town Council; something quite unfathomable. The Mayor at one time calls a public meeting for the express purpose of showing his indignation at councillors being about to let these quarries without public tender, and lo and behold the very next offer he and his followers close with it, prepare the lease, declare that they will sign it" whatever the result may be ; and this in the face of the fact that a poll was taken a few weeks back, with the result that the citizens were averse to the quarries being let, except by public tender. Such a glaring act of maladministration could only be done in Port Chalmers. The citizens ought to call upon the Mayor for a definite explanation, or hold a publio meeting at once before the lease can be signed.—l am, etc , An Indignant Ratepayer. Port Chalmers, April 26.
