The Australians were well received at Auckland today. The match was commenced at noon. Mumford was chosen captain of the Auckland Twenty-two. The Australians won the toss and sent la Spofforth and Alexander. Lynch bowled the first over to Alexander, who put his fjrsjt ball to leg for 2. It was badly fielded, but with his third ball Lynch clean bowled Alexander. J—2-$. Murdoch followed. Lankiiam took up the bowling at the other end, and Spofforth cut him for 1. Singles came freely until L nkham clean bowkd Murdoch. 15—2—10. Spofforth then got a clean hit to leg for 3 oft Lynch, and followed it up with a drive off Lankh m for 2, bringing 20 on the board, M'Donnell was bowled by Lynch for 3. Slight succeeded, and, with Spofforth, held the wickets till lunch, when the former had made 28 runs by careful batting. The score stands at 61 for three wickets. 4 p.m. Spofforth was bowled by Buckland for SO. Groube succeeded him. The score how stands four wickets (or 90 runs.
